trends to kill in 2018:

  • re-imagining sickass monsters into generic skinny white dudes
  • comparing people in minority groups to monsters without their consent (often while at the same time doing the following…)
  • shaming and mocking people in minority groups for identifying with monsters/fantasy creatures/etc
  • stanning content that hurts real life people because it has monsters in it and refusing to acknowledge any criticism of it
  • supporting horror that makes light of real life tragedies and vilifies mentally ill people

trends to start in 2018:

  • re-imagining bland characters/writing tropes/stories into sweet monsters stories
  • supporting horror/monster-centric content made by poc/disabled/lgbt/cool indie creators
  • creating stuff that you love even if it’s not perfect or if you don’t think people will like it
  • talking about your interests with pride and engaging with people who want to talk about theirs
  • being chill and respectful and trying to love humanity too even if they don’t have awesome claws and teeth and such

aw dip i forgot i made this post last year. lets try and bring this energy into 2019 as well!

I updated my Society6 store with all of my dice patterns! There’s a bunch of different designs, all featuring polyhedral dice (except one, which is cats dressed as astronauts). Because you can never have enough dice in your life!

TIL that the Count in Sesame Street does not count all the time to teach children numbers! In folklore, vampires had arithmomania, or an obsession with numbers. This derives from the old superstition that throwing poppy seeds on the ground stopped vampires because they had to count them all first.

I like the poster’s implication that the producers of Sesame Street did not put a counting vampiric count on a children’s educational series to teach kids how to count; this was just an incidental side effect of their fidelity to obscure vampire folklore.

I hate when people say things like “just because a film was entertaining doesn’t mean it was good”

If you enjoyed a film it has fulfilled its purpose as a piece of entertainment media. Not every film has to be a work of art!!

im not INTERESTED anymore in seeing men’s perception of what female leisure time looks like, how we lounge around hairless and small and beautiful on our beds and couches in oversized shirts and lace underwear, unaware and unassuming and all the more beautiful for not Trying to be beautiful, i’m TIRED of it. even our most basic freedom of privacy, time alone with the self, has been butchered and ripped from us by the gaze of male photographers and artists

intrusive thoughts are created because they’re what you fear the most. they’re not what you’re going to do. they’re what you hate most of all.

they’re not an indication of how evil you are. the only thing they indicate is what you’re most against.

my biggest gripe w this whole “symbolism is fake and stupid” shit is that it is so dismissive of the very very very real symbolism that content creators put into their own work intentionally—and sometimes—unintentionally. i sometimes go over my own work and i’m surprised by the themes i put in, the recurring patterns i write without even realizing it, and i’m the one who made that stuff! like sometimes things can MEAN other things so stop making fun of your teachers for teaching basic literary analysis you idiot
